.
Goal/Objective : With proper instruction, the students will be able to identify types of polygons: triangles, squares, rectangles, and pentagons. Students will trace and draw shapes on dot paper.

Geometry Powerpoint: Dana PP

This lesson can be in a taught in the classroom from as early as kindergarten to older grades, with more complex standards. This particular power point is for the Kindergarten level, but is a great introduction for teaching Perimeter at higher grade levels. This can be an introduction to shapes for young children from 4-7, or can be a lesson to refresh the basics of shapes before teaching higher geometry. This information is very basic, so most students do not confuse it. If this information is not understood properly, higher levels of geometry such as perimeter, area, and geometric constructions will be impossible to master. Students will also need this basic knowledge in life. Every day in our lives we deal with shapes.
Standards
2.9.3.A - Name and label geometric shapes in two dimensions (e.g., circle, square, triangle, rectangle).
2.9.3.C - Draw two- dimensional geometric shapes and construct rectangles, squares and triangles on the geoboard and on graph paper satisfying specific criteria.
